More Republican nonsense kicking people when they’re down.
General reminder that when Republicans say that they, “Care about kitchen-table issues and supporting Americans,” they’re lying. They care about lining their pockets and making sure them and their rich buddies get an extra 1% tax cut while you starve.
Then you open your wallet and pay extra into the unemployment insurance fund. All the legislature is trying to do pal is make logical cost-savings where possible, which there are many other wasteful funds, and not coninue taxing the hard working everyday folks out there who are not some legislator’s rich buddy. And to those who don’t like working, and want to milk the “system”, go find a job.
We dole out literally tens of billions of dollars in tax breaks to profitable corporations and your concern is, “Yeah, but the Hoosier out of work might be able to eat and what lesson would that teach them”?
What absolute garbage…go find a job? The reason people are receiving these benefits is they had a job, and it’s gone. And the state doesn’t pay more than $400 a week. Which is less than $10 per hour for a 40 hour week. And after 26 weeks, or just about 6 months, its gone. How indifferent to human suffering would you have to be to say to unemployed people “go find a job?” How much a sociopath?
This legislature is looking to save costs, costs funded by employers, not taxpayers generally, in some pie-eyed drive to bring more business here. But employer study after employer study indicates these aren’t the things that attract corporations. Corporations come to places with strong infrastructure, great health care at reasonable prices, and an educated, motivated workforce. How does this proposal, or most any proposal coming from the Indiana Governor’s office or Legislature, advance these elements? Low tax, demoralized workers, poor educational systems, drive corporate prospects away. We’re racing Arkansas and Kansas and Missippi to the bottom…
Indiana is already one of the most egregious states wnen it comes to unemployment benefits, and some people just want to make it worse? Is that really a Hoosier Value??? A Christian Value???
The Fund for which you are so concerned is hugely in surplus. The State generally is hugely in surplus. It won’t spend the money on infrastructure, or education, or health care. It just wants to build big balances that highly connected investment managers can then obtain contracts to invest in exchange for political contributions, as they line their pockets with the profits of being investment managers.
