One thing that is very clear to anyone filing a state tax return compared to its federal counterpart is that Indiana’s ‘code’ has resulted in years of adjusted, layered confusing thresholds. Average people, minus exotic deductions, shouldn’t need a CPA, let alone a hired 2nd party service to accurately and simply fill out their tax obligation. If the Indiana legislature wants to really accomplish something for its nearly 7,000,000 residents it will incorporate a massive restructuring overhaul to the tax law and subsequent forms. Itemize, Prioritize, Simplify and Shorten. A classic case with too much detail, redundancy, exemptions and overlay. Not unlike a struggling golfer getting lessons from 3 different instructors.
