Overall attendance during the three peak weeks of spring break was higher than in the museum’s 91-year history, museum officials said.
Visitor attendance during those three weeks was 140,762, a 3 percent increase over the previous record of 136,242 set in 2011. Children’s Museum officials pointed out that Easter fell within the three weeks this year and did not in 2011.
“So this record actually happened with one less day than 2011,” said museum spokeswoman Leslie Olsen.
Children’s Museum members came in record numbers during spring break, too. There were more than 4,200 more member visits—or a 7 percent increase—over the record set last year.
In addition to the 11 permanent exhibits, a strong lineup of rotating exhibits and experiences helped draw the record crowd, museum officials said.
Rotating exhibits included “Nickelodeon’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Secrets of the Sewer,” “Alien Worlds and Androids,” “Pirates and Princesses: Storybook Adventures,” and the popular Chocolate Slide in the Sunburst Atrium.
