As a subscriber you can listen to articles at work, in the car, or while you work out. Subscribe NowDon Scifres, a Midwest venture capitalist and former private-sector executive, has joined Indianapolis-based software company SmartFile as president, the company announced Wednesday.
Scifres is the co-founder of VisionTech Partners/VisionTech Angels, the largest angel-investing network in Indiana. He's previously held executive titles at Cummins Inc. and Angel Learning Inc., and served various board roles at companies including SmarterHQ, 250ok and Bloomerang.
SmartFile sells a secure file-management platform to companies including Interactive Intelligence, BMW, the NCAA and NBC. The president's role is new, and CEO John Hurley will retain his title. Scifres plans to start July 5.
"Adding Don as president allows us to combine our strengths," Hurley said in written remarks "I can focus on creative projects in sales and marketing, while Don's strategy, analytical and operations background will help us scale faster. Don is a well-known business and technology leader across the Midwest, and his impact on SmartFile’s direction will no doubt be immediate."
Founded in 2009, SmartFile has 28 employees and has been expanding its software development team. Based in the Stutz Building on West 10th Street downtown, it has 1,500 customers in more than 80 countries.
