As a subscriber you can listen to articles at work, in the car, or while you work out. Subscribe NowAt last! Mark Hill is stating the obvious regarding mass transit for the city. We need a 21st century answer to transit problems that is flexible, mobile and responsive to population movements.
Stats show we do not have enough employees in the downtown center to sustain a fixed system. With the migration of businesses to the outer belt, this may never exist. An Uber/Lyft-type system needs to be explored.
Furthermore, there is an abysmal lack of sidewalks in Washington Township (and I am sure other townships) to get access to a bus stop if it existed without taking your life in your hands. I support a transportation system for the population but adamantly am against the fixed and expensive Red Line. If the Red Line is included in any referendum, I will vote against it. Let us not re-create a 20th century system.
