Indiana Democratic House Speaker Patrick Bauer says it’s time for a comprehensive study on the way state tax dollars are distributed to schools.
The two-year budget lawmakers passed on Tuesday gives slight overall increases to public schools. But against Democrats’ wishes, the funding formula does not ensure that all districts get as much money or more next year than they got this year.
Bauer said that even though some schools with declining enrollments will get less money, that doesn’t mean they don’t face higher costs for things such as utilities and health insurance.
