In light of recent events in Indianapolis, it is important to understand we stand together. Once again the Greater Indianapolis Progress Committee recognizes the importance of striving, as one city for justice, equity, and the acknowledgment of the dignity and worth of all people. We reject those activities or actions that foster divisiveness, hate, exclusion, fear and the degradation of others. Instead, we support those people and groups engaged in activities or actions which build community and mutual respect. Today we reaffirm that support.

For over 50 years GIPC has been committed to moving our city forward—and we know “progress” takes all of us, working together, and celebrating the diversity that makes us stronger. GIPC has maintained the Race and Cultural Relations Leadership Network, a standing sub-committee of GIPC, for more than 20 years. It is the manifestation of GIPC’s commitment to improve race and cultural relations in the city.

We recognize the existence of implicit biases in some parts of our community. But, we deplore any action or inaction that deepens inequities. As we continue to work for even better police-community relations, as we work to understand our differences, as we move forward with mutual understanding, let there be just One City.
