The Indiana Economic Development Corp. has named Ian Steff to the newly created position of executive vice president and chief innovation officer, the IEDC announced Tuesday.

Steff will be responsible for overseeing IEDC strategies as part of Gov. Mike Pence’s $1 billion initiative to advance innovation and entrepreneurship in the state. The initiative was announced in mid-July.

Steff has been a science and technology adviser to the IEDC since May 2014, working with public-private partnerships and leading the state’s participation in initiatives such as the Battery Innovation Center, the Institute for Advanced Composites Manufacturing Innovation and the Indiana Manufacturing Institute at Purdue University.

Prior to joining the IEDC, Steff was an executive officer and vice president of global policy and technology partnerships at the Semiconductor Industry Association in Washington, D.C., for nearly a decade.

Before that, he was on the trade staff of the U.S. House of Representatives Ways and Means Committee.

Steff received a bachelor’s degree in international studies from American University and a master’s degree in international science and technology policy from George Washington University. He also studied at the National Defense University in Washington, D.C.
