The House version contains the 15-percent tax credit – which has been debated for two years – but the Senate version does not.
Makers of a movie about the first Indianapolis 500 said the passage of the tax credit would pave the way for their movie to be made in Indiana. Otherwise, said Roger Brummett, the movie’s associate producer, the project could be moved to another Midwestern state that offers better incentives.
“With all the state is facing, we humbly appeal for this tax credit,” said Brummett, who estimated the credit could save the movie’s makers up to $10 million. “This is extremely important to us and our project.”
On Friday, Angelo Pizzo – the creator of “Hoosiers” and “Rudy” – testified in favor of the tax credit. Pizzo also wrote the screenplay for the movie “500,” which is due to be in production early next year.
Brummett said a plot of land in Newton County has been selected for shooting the bulk of the movie about the 1911 race. He said other Indiana locations, including Indianapolis, also have been scouted.
