The organization said it has put its Indianapolis headquarters at 46th Street and Mitthoeffer Road on the northeast side up for sale. The site is one of five Little League regional offices in the United States and oversees Little League baseball and softball in 13 states.
The organization said in a statement that the “the decision was made to relocate in order to identify a location that suits our evolving needs, and to allow Little League to continue to provide a family-friendly environment for the tournaments and events held each year at the complex.”
“Little League is proud to have called Indianapolis our central region home for more than 25 years,” Little League CEO Stephen Keener said in a statement. “With the new plan in place, Little League baseball and softball is currently in search of a new location that will offer adequate facilities, strong infrastructure, and a supporting community that appreciates and understands the ideals of Little League.”
The central region headquarters coordinates operations for about 26,000 teams and 375,000 players in Little League baseball and softball. In addition, the Indianapolis facility each August hosts the regional tournaments that led up to the Little League Baseball World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, and the Little League Softball World Series in Portland, Oregon.
Little League will pick a new location from among communities that respond to a request for proposals. It wasn’t immediately clear whether other Indiana communities will vie for the headquarters.
A representative of Westfield’s 400-acre Grand Park sports complex expressed interest.
"We would love to have Little League as a partner at Grand Park," Grand Park marketing manager Michelle Krcmery said in an email. "However, further consideration will be needed to make sure it would be a good fit for both organizations."
Little League International said the central region will continue to operate from its current location until the organization picks a new site.
