As a subscriber you can listen to articles at work, in the car, or while you work out. Subscribe NowNestle USA plans to ask Anderson’s City Council for a tax break on equipment for its expanded plant that it says will lead to the hiring of nearly 99 people.
Nestle is scheduled to make the request tomorrow for a 10-year tax abatement on new equipment valued at $200 million. The break is worth about $9.3 million and is part of the incentive package the central Indiana city offered for Nestle’s expansion.
The council would set the public hearing for Aug. 13.
The company plans to expand its plant along Interstate 69 by about 200,000 square feet. The plant is already Nestle’s largest in the United States.
Anderson Economic Development Director Linda Dawson said Nestle could have about 500 employees at the plant after the expansion. Jobs at the plant pay an average salary of about $19 per hour, she said.
Nestle began construction in 2006 on the Anderson plant, where it makes and distributes Nesquik and Coffee-Mate.
