Electrical safety firm Lewellyn Technology LLC plans to spend $1.5 million to expand its offices in Zionsville and create as many as 30 jobs by 2021.

The company intends to add 3,000 square feet to its 5,000-square-foot headquarters at 6210 Technology Center Drive that will include a training center for employees and clients, according to a release Monday from state officials. It expects to begin work on the addition early next year.

Lewellyn specializes in electrical safety training for maintenance workers, as well as assessments and consulting. Its programs and services aim to prevent arc flashes—explosive releases of energy potentially caused by a number of factors in an unsafe work environment—and the combustion of collected dust in commercial facilities.

Founded in 1993, the company currently employs 55 workers across the country, including more than 20 in Indiana. It’s currently hiring master electricians, combustible dust consultants, electrical engineers and sales associates.

The Indiana Economic development Corp. has offered the firm up to $275,000 in tax credits and $50,000 in training grants based on its job-creation plans. The credits are conditional, meaning they can’t be claimed until workers are hired.
