President of Hamilton County’s community foundation leaving in March

The president of the Hamilton County affiliate of Central Indiana Community Foundation has announced his resignation.

Terry Anker, who has been the president of the Legacy Fund since 2011, will leave the position in March, the organization said Thursday.

The $56 million community foundation administers charitable funds, foundations and organizational endowments, and awards grants to help address community needs.

During Anker’s tenure, Legacy Fund increased its total assets by $15 million, raised $28 million and awarded 2,714 grants.

Anker also helped launch the Youth Assistance Programs in Hamilton County school corporations. The program helps at-risk youth avoid making mistakes that could lead to legal issues in the future.

“Terry has made a significant impact on our community while serving as president of the Legacy Fund,” Mike Daugherty, Legacy Fund board chair, said in a written statement. “He is dedicated to the success of Hamilton County, and we look forward to continuing to work with him in pursuit of this goal. Terry has graciously agreed to stay on through March in order to provide our board of directors sufficient time to thoughtfully select Legacy Fund’s next president.”

Anker earned $141,059 in 2014, according to the organization’s latest Form 990 tax statement.

Anker said when he accept the position in 2011, he had planned on serving for five years before returning to the private sector. He is the president and CEO of Anker Consulting Group, which works with various startups, and he’s a partner of Current Publishing LLC.

“Joining Legacy Fund was an opportunity for me to serve the community,” Anker said. “It’s been a real honor and privilege. I’m a lucky guy."

Since Legacy Fund was established in 1991, it has awarded more than $54.6 million in grants and $4.7 million in scholarships.
