Indiana Gov.-elect Eric Holcomb plans to lead an Indiana delegation to the United Kingdom in December as part of an international jobs and economic development trade mission.

Holcomb said in a written statement Monday that his administration will "work hard to foster relationships with job creators and government leaders" in the UK and new markets worldwide and build upon strong partnerships that already exist.

The trip is scheduled Dec. 3-7. The cost is being covered through private donations to the Indiana Economic Development Foundation. The delegation will include Indiana Secretary of Commerce Victor Smith and Indiana Economic Development Corp. staff.

During the trip, Holcomb will meet with government officials in London as well as potential investors in Indiana's top business sectors, including advanced manufacturing. Holcomb, a Republican, also will meet with executives of UK companies that operate in Indiana.

Holcomb's office says the UK is Indiana's largest European investor. The state is home to more than 60 UK-based business facilities that employ about 31,800 Hoosiers, including Rolls-Royce, BAE Systems, Tate and Lyle, BP, GKN Sinter Metals and Texmo Precision Castings.

About 20 Indiana-headquartered firms support facilities in the UK, including Eli Lilly, Berry Plastics, Cummins and Zimmer Biomet. Indiana exported nearly $1.24 billion of Hoosier-built products to the UK in 2015.

Holcomb will meet with senior directors from Rolls-Royce, whose chief executive visited Indianapolis in September and invited the Lt. Governor to visit the company's UK headquarters.
