Hamilton County’s community foundation has found its next president.

Legacy Fund, an affiliate of the Central Indiana Community Foundation, announced Tuesday morning that Tom Kilian Jr. would take the position Thursday.

Kilian will replace Terry Anker, who announced in November that he would leave the position in March after six years of leadership to return to the private sector.

The $55 million community foundation administers charitable funds, foundations and organizational endowments, and awards grants to help address community needs.

Kilian previously worked as the executive director for central Indiana region of the Ivy Tech Foundation Inc. and helped secure a $5 million donation, which is the largest gift in Ivy Tech’s history.

“We are pleased to have Tom lead Legacy Fund,” Ann O’Hara, Legacy Fund board chairwoman and an Ice Miller attorney, said in a written statement. “With his background and skills in the development arena, we believe Tom will grow Legacy Fund and create innovative ways for Legacy Fund to continue its work serving the Hamilton County community.”

Since Legacy Fund was established in 1991, it has awarded more than $54.6 million in grants and $4.7 million in scholarships.
