Catchings, a four-time Olympic Olympic gold medalist and 16-year WNBA superstar who retired as a player last fall, will work with all three of PS&E’s franchises: the Pacers, the Fever and Fort Wayne Mad Ants.
The new position calls on her to “aid with structure and implementation of player-development programs, player relations and community outreach. “
She is expected to work one-on-one with individual players on speaking and presentation skills, and on the development of athlete foundations or other business interests.
A longtime president of the WNBA player's association, Catchings also will assist in the planning and execution of player’s association meetings, and other team and player programming.
Catchings, 37, was drafted by the Indiana Fever in 2001, a year after the team was established, and helped lead the Fever to a league-record 12 consecutive playoff appearances, 13 overall. The 2011 league MVP and 2012 Finals MVP, is the leading rebounder in WNBA history, and its No. 2 all-time scorer. She also was WNBA Defensive Player of the Year five times.
In February, Catchings bought Tea's Me Cafe, 140 E. 22nd St., on the north side of Indianapolis.
