Subscribe NowKansas-based consulting engineering firm Terracon has acquired Indianapolis-based Earth Exploration Inc., but the company’s 60 employees will continue to serve clients locally under the same name, albeit with an addition.
Earth Exploration, which also has an office in Niles, Mich., has a staff of engineers and scientists that works on site exploration and geotechnical engineering. It will now be known as Earth Exploration Inc., A Terracon Company.
The company has worked with state transportation agencies in Indiana, Kentucky and Illinois and has “significant long-term relationships” with several Midwestern universities.
On its website, it said it is responsible for providing “geotechnical engineering design and construction services” for 133 miles of the Interstate 69 extension. The firm also provided evaluations and testing for the Indianapolis International Airport and the Indiana Historical Society.
A spokeswoman for Terracon declined to disclose terms of the deal. All Earth Exploration employees would be retained in the acquisition, she said.
“We are incredibly proud of the valuable relationships we have built over the years and that our tradition of providing a high level of service to clients has allowed us to come to this place of opportunity,” said Richard Olson, principal and president of Earth Exploration, in a statement. “With the support of Terracon’s national network, we are able to offer greater resources for our employees and clients.”
Earth Exploration is Terracon’s sixth acquisition since 2016. Terracon has more than 4,000 employees working in all 50 states.
In a press release, Terracon’s Eastern Midwest Division Manager Prasad Rege said one of the company’s “core strategies is constant expansion.”
“While historically Terracon has served these states from our Louisville or Cincinnati offices, aligning our two firms will allow us to better support local market needs with an increased presence and expanded services,” Rege said in the statement.
