The Wayne Township Fire Department said the spill of a chemical used in automotive adhesive was reported shortly after 4 a.m. Tuesday at Vertellus Specialties Inc., at West Minnesota Street and South Tibbs Avenue on the city's southwest side.
Authorities say the spill doesn't extend beyond the plant, which manufactures chemicals, and there's no hazard to areas around the plant. The spill involved dimethylpiperidine, a chemical used in adhesives.
The cause of the spill is under investigation.
Vertellus was acquired by its lenders last year for $454 million as part of a Chapter 11 bankruptcy agreement.
