lineup of honorary co-chairmen.
FordThe prize committee recently announced that novelist and Miami Herald columnist Carl Hiaasen
and actor Harrison Ford will be co-chairs for the September 2010 award.
The Indianapolis
Zoo initiated the prize six years ago and claims it’s the biggest individual monetary price in
the world for animal conservation. The money has come from the Eli Lilly and Company Foundation since
2006.
Hiaasen’s most recent work, a children’s book called “Hoot,”
is an “environmental thriller.” Ford has served on the board of Conservation International
for 15 years.
Other honorary co-chairs for the 2010 award will be local philanthropist Christel DeHaan, Sen.
Richard Lugar, former energy utility honcho and World Wildlife Fund Treasurer Roger Sant, and philanthropist Bren Simon.
