As a subscriber you can listen to articles at work, in the car, or while you work out. Subscribe NowWestfield-based manufacturer IMMI announced plans on Monday to hire 55 full-time workers to keep up with demand for lap-and-shoulder belts for school buses.
The company, founded in 1961 as Indiana Mills & Manufacturing Inc., said it is hiring for both first-shift and second-shift openings.
IMMI has 1,400 employees worldwide at plants in North America, Asia and Europe. Its Westfield facility has 500 workers.
The company makes the SafeGuard brand of seat belts.
“More than ever, districts and states are making the decision to improve protection for their students on the school bus by adding seat belts,” CEO Larry Gray said in a written statement. “Seat belts reduce injuries, save lives, and on a school bus, they have the added benefit of improving behavior and reducing bullying.”
