Indianapolis International Airport passengers soon will have a new option for nonstop flights to Tampa, Florida.
Frontier Airlines will add daily year-round flights between Indianapolis and Tampa International Airport beginning Nov. 12, the airport announced Thursday. Currently, Southwest Airlines is the only carrier that offers nonstop service from Indianapolis to Tampa.
Frontier already offers nonstop service between Indianapolis and several other destinations, including Las Vegas, Denver, and the Florida cities of Orlando and Fort Myers.
The Indianapolis-Tampa route is part of a larger system expansion by Frontier. The Denver-based airline announced this week that it plans to add 85 new routes and 21 new cities to its schedule over the next year.
Frontier previously was owned by Indianapolis-based Republic Airways Holdings Inc. In 2013, Republic agreed to sell the carrier to Indigo Partners LLC, which launched plans to make it an ultra-low-cost airline.
