As a lifelong Republican and businessman, I strongly oppose your proposed home-sharing bill [Lehman: Let’s balance individual rights and government oversight, Forefront, July 17]. The issue is not about governmental regulation but about the “sharing” property owners stealing value from their neighboring property owners.
These land uses are simply not compatible. Business is about paying your costs, not shifting your costs to others. If these “sharing” property owners want to be entrepreneurial, they need to pony up: Buy commercially zoned land and pay hospitality taxes, not try to get something for nothing at the expense of their residential neighbors.
