The funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development are from the federal stimulus package.
Indiana Sen. Evan Bayh said many Indiana communities that were already struggling before the recession face significant challenges to recovery. He said the grants will improve neighborhoods’ long-term viability by sparking development, retaining businesses and providing affordable housing options to people in need.
The money will be distributed to local governments as part of the Community Development Block Grant program.
