Indy region submits bid to land Amazon’s proposed second headquarters

The Indianapolis region has officially sent in its formal bid to be considered as the site for a second Amazon headquarters, according to the Indy Chamber.

Chamber spokesman Joe Pellman said Wednesday morning in an email that the bid “has been sent as of last night to arrive ahead of the Oct. 19 deadline.”

But area officials are staying mum about the bid, unlike those from fellow Hoosier city Gary, who are being vocal about their desire to land the proposed $5 billion project and its anticipated 50,000 jobs.     

IBJ previously reported that a “small, diverse group of business and private stakeholders” coordinated—and funded—by the Indy Chamber guided the bid effort.

"Given the nature of economic development projects such as this, the information within Indy’s regional bid will remain confidential to respect Amazon’s process and the information within it,” Pellman told IBJ. "As is the case with economic development inquiries and community bids for major sporting events or conventions, our intent is to provide the most effective response to leave no doubt that the Indianapolis region is the best possible location for success.”
