As a subscriber you can listen to articles at work, in the car, or while you work out. Subscribe NowAmazon notes that “the initial cost and ongoing cost of doing business are critical decision drivers” as it decides where to locate its HQ2. Most of the drivers seem to revolve around forms of corporate welfare like tax abatements, grants, etc.
The folks who are heading up Indy’s effort to attract Amazon to locate here should stress the value of time as a critical area. The press is reporting that Austin, Atlanta and Philadelphia are the leading candidates. I would point out to Amazon’s management that should they be in any of those cities during the hours of 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. or 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., they will likely be stuck in traffic.
That is four hours a day of down time that could be used for production or lifestyle events for families. I like to brag about Indy’s rush hour where traffic on I-69 slows to 60 mph. That’s worth a lot to me.
