as the one already in use in Indiana.
Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller said he welcomes the federal rule that
took effect yesterday, but said Indiana’s law is stronger and is not pre-empted by the federal law.
Both laws prohibit
the use of prerecorded telemarketing calls unless the consumer has given written permission to be called. But the federal
rule exempts politicians, banks, telephone carriers and most charitable groups from making so-called robo calls. Indiana’s
law does not have such exemptions.
