The Indianapolis facility is located at 1202 W. 16th St. The layoffs are expected to take place Feb. 2, according to a notice filed with state workforce development officials.
Care Ambulance is a division of Procarent, which provides ambulance and taxi services in three states and has about 1,000 employees, according to its website.
Procarent officials didn’t immediately respond to IBJ’s requests for comment on Monday morning. The state filing didn’t specify a reason for the Indianapolis closure.
According to Care Ambulance’s website, it also has operations in Terre Haute and Brazil. A Dec. 4 story in The Brazil Times reported that care recently chose not to renew its contract with Clay County, leading to an arrangement with emergency service provider Star Ambulance.
A representative of Star told county commissioners that it was planning to lease a building currently being used by Care.
