Regional Transportation Authority, or CIRTA.
The quasi-government organization is exploring rail and bus options
for the metro area.
Delaware County’s representative on the CIRTA board will be Marta Moody, executive director
of the Delaware-Muncie Plan Commission.
“Our goal is to work with the public and private sectors to make
comprehensive regional mass transit a reality for central Indiana,” said Ehren Bingaman, CIRTA’s executive director.
The group last year gave its blessing to a Noblesville-to-Indianapolis commuter rail concept, via the old Nickel
Plate rail line. Environmental impact studies are under way, although funding has not been nailed down.
Boone,
Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Johnson, Madison, Marion, Morgan and Shelby counties previously joined CIRTA.
