There is really no excuse not to do it, except over-the-top partisanship and lack of leadership.
There are numerous models in use in several states, both “red” and “blue,” both larger and smaller than Indiana. Iowa has had independent redistricting for decades. Some models are newer, including those in Arizona, California, Florida, Idaho and New Jersey.
Independent redistricting reform is supported overwhelmingly by voters, here as shown by polls and elsewhere as shown by citizen petition and in some states by citizen initiative and referendum. Indeed, it is time for Hoosiers to be able to pick their legislators rather than politicians picking their voters.
