has been among the country’s hardest-hit places during the recession.
The startup company T-Flex LLC said it could
hire as many as 130 people over the next two years for its plant making bags for products such as dog food, potato chips and
frozen food. It will occupy a building in Elkhart left vacant when a mattress company closed in April, putting 100 people
out of work.
About 120 of the jobs will be production jobs that pay about $32,000 per year, according to the South
Bend Tribune. The company has received preliminary approval for a five-year tax abatement from Elkhart.
Dwyer Instruments
Inc. announced today it would expand its Wakarusa operations to absorb manufacturing now done at a Puerto Rico plant. The
Michigan City-based company makes industrial gauges, instruments and controls, and expects to hire about 60 workers by the
end of the year.
The Indiana Economic Development Corp. offered Dwyer up to $45,500 in performance-based tax credits
and up to $30,500 in training grants based on the company’s job-creation plans. The town of Wakarusa will consider property-tax
abatement.
