Memory Bank: Waiting for the train

Children and adults line up at the Boulevard Station on East 38th Street near the Indiana State Fairgrounds on Oct. 26, 1954. The station, built in 1922, was a stop on the Monon Route, which connected Chicago, Indianapolis and Louisville. Much of the rail along the route has been abandoned and some turned into trails—most notably the Monon Trail through Carmel and Indianapolis. The Boulevard Station building still stands along the trail as part of the Indianapolis Greenways System operated by Indy Parks.
