Kentucky as gambling competitor

The developing story in Kentucky about its new governorâ??s attempt to legalize casinos isnâ??t getting a lot of play in Indianapolis,
but the fallout could be huge if he succeeds.

Steve Beshear wants a dozen casinos to try to stop gamblers from emptying their pockets in Indiana and other neighboring states.

This might not be entirely uphill for Beshear. Casinos were part of his platform last year when he beat incumbent Ernie Fletcher,
a Republican who was hurt by a scandal within his administration.

New casinos wouldnâ??t arrive overnight, but state and local governments in Indiana might be forced to look for new revenue
if Kentucky folks stop coming over the border to places like the Casino Aztar in Evansville and Caesars Indiana across from
Louisville.

Indiana state and local government collects $1 billion a year from gambling. What should happen if some of that evaporates?
