Not all news is bad for retail. A few stores are planning their first Indianapolis locations, while others are expanding. By popular demand, here’s the Around Town Retail Roundup:
Zumiez, an action-sports retailer, has filed plans to open a 2,700-square-foot store in Castleton Square Mall, its first in Indianapolis. The Everett, Wash.-based chain sells clothing and accessories for sports such as skateboarding, surfing and snowboarding. The company has 285 stores, including one in Merrillville.
Rag-O-Rama, a buy/sell/trade clothing chain, plans to open a store in Broad Ripple. The Columbus, Ohio-based store has locations in Atlanta, St. Louis and Columbus. The Broad Ripple store will take 3,000 square feet in the strip center across the street from Applebee’s.
Wingstop, a 600-store restaurant chain endorsed by retired quarterback Troy Aikman, plans to open its first Indianapolis-area location on the south side. The 1,600-square-foot restaurant is planned for a new retail strip in front of Greenwood Place at U.S. 31 and Shelby Street. The chain is based in Dallas.
Henry’s on East, a local coffee shop bistro, is opening a second location in the first floor of the Villagio condos at 435 Virginia Ave. The coffee shop will take 1,700 square feet. The original location is at 627 N. East St.
Five Guys, the Virginia-based chain with the simple menu, plans to open its fourth Indianapolis restaurant in a strip center across from Castleton Square Mall. The restaurant will take 3,000 square feet southeast of 82nd and Allisonville.
AutoZone, the Memphis-based auto parts chain, has filed plans for a new, 7,000-square-foot store at 4857 W. 56th St., just west of Georgetown Road.
