While the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra’s ’09/’10 Pops Series won’t be formally announced until April 10, maestro Jack Everly enthusiastically told sold-out crowds at the Hilbert Circle Theatre this weekend that the upcoming progam will include three world premiere programs:
–Mama Brady and Mama Partridge–Florence Hendeson and Shirley Jones–will be featured together. Beyond their TV Land credits, both have a history of singing tunes from the Great American Songbook. Trivia note: Henderson starred on Broadway as Laurey in “Oklahoma!” in 1953. Jones played the same role in the film version.
–Michael Cavanaugh, who provided the Billy Joel-tune vocals for Broadway’s “Movin’ Out,” will be back with a program titled “Generations of Rock.”
–Maureen McGovern will offer Indy audiences a first listen to an orchestra version of her “Long and Winding Road” collection of classic rock covers.
Also, Marvin Hamlisch will be returning to conduct and perform with the ISO.
More info to come.
