The web site is up (http://www.magicbirdbroadway.com/), the opening night is set (March 21), but there's nobody yet cast to play either Larry Bird or Magic Johnson in the upcoming Broadway production of the new play "Magic/Bird."
Here's what we do know:
–According to Playbill.com, previews will begin Feb. 27.
–In addition to the title duo, characters will include Red Auerbach and Bird's mother, Georgia.
–Thomas Kail, who directed Broadway's "Lombardi" and "In the Heights" will have the same duties here.
–The play was written by Eric Simonson, a Steppenwolf Theatre Company member who also penned "Lombardi."
–Although they are realistic enough to know that finding a pair of actors as towering as the real-life counterparts, the producers are still looking for heights that at least match each other, adding that "taller is good.""
–I'll do everything I can to be in New York for the opening and, of course, report here.
