The most exciting item on the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra's Symphony on the Prairie lineup for the summer of 2013 isn't a big name performer–it's what seems to be a very smart collaboration.
On Aug. 2-3, the ISO will present Indy Jazz Fest at the Prairie, which doesn't yet have performers attached, but should help broaden the audiences for the annual summer fest. As with other August Prairie concerts this year (The Contours, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, River City Brass Band), the ISO will not appear at that one, alas.
Also on the schedule this year, with the Symphony itself, are tributes to John Williams, the Rolling Stones, and Classic FM music from the '50s-'80s. "Star Spangled Symphony" returns, of course, for the 4th of July, and there's also classical concerts opening the season June 21-22 and, at least for the ISO players, closing it on July 26-27.
