Nothing is more American than beer and a hot dog, and now patrons of King David Dogs can indulge in the tradition. The downtown eatery has received its beer permit and is selling local Sun King brews—the Wee Mac, Sunlight Cream Ale and Osiris Pale Ale—in 16-ounce cans. “We thought beer would be a good addition,” owner Brent Joseph said. “Beer and hot dogs go together pretty well.” King David’s new summer hours may help entice customers to pop the tab on a cold one. The restaurant will remain open on Thursdays and Fridays until at least 8:30 p.m., Joseph said.
Another local eatery, South of Chicago Pizza and Beef, is expanding into Hamilton County. Business has been so good at the Fletcher Place restaurant on Virginia Avenue that owner Bob Jaeger is taking his deep dish offerings to Fishers. He plans to open a location in the Bonn Building within Saxony near Interstate 69 by early July. Jaeger, a Windy City native, says he hopes the restaurant will attract more families. “I was hoping to get that downtown, but it hasn’t happened,” he said. Still, “Friday and Saturday night we’re slammed, and lunches are out the door.” Jaeger says he’s also scouting locations in Greenwood, though those plans likely are a year away.
