Bands of America Grand National Championships

You don’t have to be a family member—or even know anything about the schools the marching bands represent—to appreciate the finesse of their coming to Indy for this annual competition. If, however, you are a band geek, the finals at Lucas Oil Stadium are your Super Bowl. Nov. 12-15 Lucas Oil Stadium. Details here.

“You Can’t Take It With You”

James Stewart, Lionel Barrymore and Jean Arthur return to the big screen—where they belong—in this 1938 Frank Capra comedy. If you’ve never been to the Artcraft, take advantage of this trek into cinematic yesteryear. Nov. 14-15 Artcraft Theatre, Franklin. Details here.

Garfunkel and Oates

The deceptively sweet-sounding Independent Film Channel musical comedy duo and Upright Citizens Brigade vets (aka Kate Miccucci and Riki Lindhome) come to town with such tunes as “Pregnant Women are Smug” at the ready. Nov. 15 Egyptian Room. Details here.

At Encore Vocal Arts' Remix, live choral classics looped through vocal processors and performed with techno dance tracks from Andru Pramuk. DJ Joe Meltdown presides over the Nov. 15 performance at the Sanctuary on Penn. Details here. 

Tania Perez-Dalas Compania de Danza, led by one of Mexico’s top choreographers, performs Nov. 14-15 at the Tarkington. Details here.

At its Nov. 16 concert at the Athenaeum, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Indianapolis introduces a new program, “Symphony 101,” in which Mozart’s Overture to “La finta giardiniera” is broken down for a better understanding of its construction. Details here.

The Indiana Wind Symphony, with guest pianist Kelleen Strutz, performs a Palladium concert Nov. 15 that includes John Williams’ Olympic music and the first movement of Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in C Minor. Details here.
