“We absolutely want to do it … but there may be demands the NFL has included that mean we can’t do it,” said Ballard spokesman Robert Vane.
On Friday, Indianapolis Convention & Visitors Association President Bob Bedell said the association would move forward on work to prepare the bid.
Vane said ICVA’s announcement about the decision to put in a bid was done “completely solo with no coordination with us.”
The ICVA revealed its plans about the bid as part of its State of Tourism presentation, in which it outlined 2006 and 2007 tourism results and talked about its plans for 2008.
“Our business is about bidding for events and going after events of all size that will benefit Indianapolis,” ICVA spokesman Bob Schultz said today. “We have to start now and we look forward to working with the Ballard team as it takes shape.”
To meet the NFL requirements, there are several items that city government would need to partner on, making city cooperation a must. Bedell said his group will continue work until they hear otherwise from leaders.
“We don’t foresee that at this point,” Bedell said.
