The announcement of Miles’ selection is expected this week. The source, who asked not to be named, said Miles will oversee initial research as well as assembling the bid and taking it to the committee of Super Bowl owners.
The nature of Miles’ role could change depending on results of due diligence, the source said, without offering specifics.
Dallas beat out Indianapolis as well as Glendale, Ariz., for the 2011 Super Bowl.
Leading fundraising for the 2012 bid will be Eli Lilly and Co. President John Lechleiter, who will become Lilly CEO in April. Last year, businesses committed $25 million in private funding toward the 2011 bid.
Team owners are scheduled to meet in May in Atlanta to make their decision on the 2012 host city.
Last year, attorney Fred Glass, then a member of the Capital Improvement Board, led the effort. Glass, a Democrat, resigned from the board after Republican Greg Ballard was elected mayor in November. Miles is a Republican.
