The first investment by Clarian Health Ventures is in an Indianapolis startup that is developing technology for spotting cancer cells.

The new fund started by Clarian joined four other venture firms in pumping $6.25 million into CS-Keys Inc. CS-Keys was launched by Indiana University School of Medicine researchers.

Leading the investment was Triathlon Medical Ventures, which provided seed funding to CS.

Also participating were two funds new to Indiana, Ceres Venture Fund LP of Evanston, Ill., and Prolog Ventures of St. Louis.

Another investor was Spring Mill Venture Partners.

The biomarker technology under development by CS is intended to detect occurrence or recurrence of cancer.

The latest round of funding will help CS launch a product to help detect cancer in biopsies.

In November, Clarian Health put $25 million of its investment capital into Clarian Health Ventures.
