Oklahoma City-based McClendon Venture Company LLC made the investment to help ProCure develop a network of cancer treatment centers across the country. McClendon also gave $35 million to ProCure in December 2006.
“I have every reason to believe ProCure will become the gold standard for providing proton therapy to treat cancer in this country,” McClendon owner Aubrey K. McClendon said. “I remain impressed with the tremendous progress the company has made over the past 18 months, led by the opening of the Training and Development Center in Bloomington and the start of construction on the Oklahoma ProCure Treatment Center.”
The center is to open in summer 2009.
ProCure was founded in 2005 by Dr. John Cameron, who helped create one of the nation’s first proton therapy treatment facilities, the Midwest Proton Radiotherapy Institute in Bloomington. The institute, which treated its first cancer patient in 2004, is one of only five proton therapy centers in the United States.
Proton therapy can reduce the size of tumors with fewer side effects than traditional radiation therapy. ProCure provides management support for the design, construction, operation and maintenance of proton therapy treatment centers.
