That amounts to 24 percent of the work force at the plant west of downtown, leaving 833 employees, said spokesman Fred Cox. The departures are effective July 1.
Some new employees are expected to be hired if auto sales rebound from their slump, Cox said.
“We’re still performing at the levels we need to based on the volumes we have today,” Cox said.
The plant makes hoods, fenders, tailgates and other parts for such vehicles as pickup trucks and the Acadia sport-utility crossover.
General Motors said that about 19,000 workers, a quarter of its domestic hourly work force, accepted the offers.
