Frizzell, 69, has represented House District 93, which includes portions of Johnson and Marion counties, since 1992.
During his time in the House, Frizzell served as assistant majority floor leader, majority whip, and chair of the House Family, Children and Human Affairs Committee. He also served on the House Public Health Committee, and House Utilities, Energy and Telecommunications Committee.
“It has truly been an honor to represent our community over the last 27 years,” Frizzell said in a written statement. “During my time with the legislature, I always strive to seek the Lord first when making decisions at the Statehouse, and do what is best for the citizens of Marion and Johnson counties. I am humbled by voters’ continued support over the years, and appreciate the opportunity to serve our great state.”
Frizzell is leaving mid-term. He will be replaced by a caucus of Republican leaders in his district.
“During our time serving in the legislature together, Dave has become an integral member of our leadership team and trusted confidant,” House Speaker Brian Bosm said in written comments. “His heart and passion for helping others is modeled after his faith, and he is a true public servant. Dave will be sincerely missed at the Statehouse.”
