As a subscriber you can listen to articles at work, in the car, or while you work out. Subscribe Now“No Limits” host John Krull announced on the air Tuesday that the twice-weekly radio show on WFYI-FM 90.1 will end on July 11.
Krull, who launched the show with WFYI in 2010, said the change will make way for a new program—“All IN” hosted by Matt Pelsor that will eventually air statewide.
“We will spend the final live 'No Limits' shows offering a profound thanks to the best audience in radio,” Krull said at the top of the program. “Good people have listened to us for nearly nine years.”
"All IN" will debut July 16 and will expand to other public radio stations across Indiana beginning Sept. 30.
"The show will touch on the issues and topics that excite and interest us, rooted in the belief that we can bring our passions and differences together in a civil, intelligent and non-judgmental environment," according to a statement on the WFYI website. "The program will not take live callers, but will include listener questions and comments through other communication channels (details to come)."
On "No Limits," Krull, the director of the Pulliam School of Journalism at Franklin College, served as essentially a moderator for discussions about public policy, politics, education, the arts and anything that would “foster good discussion,” the WFYI website said.
“The goal is to create the sort of forum in which the wisest voice, not loudest one, carries the day,” WFYI says of the show.
On Tuesday, the show flipped the usual script, bringing in CNN national political reporter Eric Bradner, one of Krull’s former students, to host the show and interview Krull about his time on the program.
"No Limits" has aired at 1 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursdays, with listeners submitting questions by phone, e-mail, Twitter and Facebook.
At the time of its launch, then-WFYI CEO Lloyd Wright told IBJ the show was part of the station's push to provide more local content.
Recent topics covered by the show include HIV treatment and testing within Indiana, food access in central Indiana and Indy’s art scene.
Krull, who earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism and history at Franklin College and master’s in American Studies from Saint Louis University, began his career in print media as a writer at The Indianapolis News, which has since closed. He was also a writer and columnist at The Indianapolis Star.
He served as executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Indiana for six years before joining Franklin College in 2004.
