Ex-teacher faces fondling charge

A former New Palestine gym teacher was arrested Monday for allegedly molesting a 13-year-old male student at school last year. Bryan Turner, 53, resigned from his non-certified teaching position at Doe Creek Middle School in New Palestine after allegations surfaced shortly before Thanksgiving. In a letter to parents and staff last week, Superintendent James Halik said that he received a phone call from a man who said he had personal knowledge of misconduct by Turner nearly 30 years ago. The charges stem from an investigation by the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department and Child Protective Services into an incident that took place in October 2010.
