  1. It’s been the policy not for health reasons, but because vaccinated chickens (and ducks and turkeys) are not acceptable as broiler (meat, not the eggs) product in many foreign countries. The broiler industry is concerned Europe and Asia will stop buying poultry meat. But now that more 150 million chickens have been destroyed, and more keep becoming infected, this policy may soon change. THe egg production side of the poultry business is being destroyed; that more directly impacts the American pocketbook, and politicians futures, then does the possible loss of the broiler market.

  2. Maybe we drop all protected and/or endangered status for the Canada goose, and let hunters, farmers, and grounds keepers have open season on the species. Since most of those geese don’t migrate anymore, they might be perpetuating the bird flu with their massive waste. Seems the wildlife and scientific folks need to research this a bit further. My guess is the Canada geese spread the virus while we look elsewhere.

    1. So far I’ve not seen any evidence that Canadian geese are even susceptible to the virus. While hundreds of Sandhill Cranes have been found dead from the disease, I’ve not seen or heard of large numbers of geese being impacted.

    2. Lisa just Google Canadian geese dying on East coast, there’s been dozens dying in Massachusetts over 20 were recently just found dead in Maine they’re washing up dead on the beaches in New Jersey also. And these are all the Canadian geese.
