    1. For Christ sakes, local does not equate to better. In fact, most of the substandard development we have is “local”. Don’t be naive.

    2. In this case it does. Any national real estate holding company would just let it rot, and do nothing to engage the community on potential redevelopment.

  1. That Burlington has been closed since September 2019. It’s time they updated their website. Burlington certainly did, and neither Lafayette Square nor Washington Square have Burlington stores on the Burlington website.

  2. I have faith that Fabricio will be able to make something work within the immediate context. If nothing else, he’ll be in for a financial windfall in the future. I just hope he doesn’t let the City interfere too much with any substantial redevelopment – if he has that in mind.

  3. Most of the shops that are currently in Lafayette Square are locally-owned. I’m hoping that the future of the mall includes some form of mixed-use developments on the underused parking lots and finds a way to get retail facing the street. It would be nice to have some form of a village center in the neighborhood.

  4. This area would be an ideal location for a soccer stadium —
Lots of empty space where car dealers big boxes have been and a need to bring new businesses to tje area

    1. Isn’t that less than 20 home games a year or 5% of the days? In general, sport stadiums aren’t good catalysts for new business.

  5. Years ago, I hoped that the city would somehow make it work for the Ikea to go here. This would have been a tremendous boon for the area and it already has the right interstate access to make something like this happen. With the Ikea going to Fishers, something similar as a destination retail should be targeted – maybe Bass Pro Shop?

    1. I like where your head is at.
A Bass Pro or other destination retailer would make a lot of sense.
I remember going to that mall as a kid before the area took a serious dip. It’s really unfortunate. With Eagle Creek Park so close the area could be quite interesting again.
Here’s to hoping the new owners get creative.
