The latest activity on Mass Ave. leads this edition of Property Lines.
• The Garden Table at 908 E. Westfield Blvd. in Broad Ripple is expanding and taking the space vacated by Walgreens in the Marott Center at 342 Mass Ave. Garden Table offers fresh-pressed juices and breakfast and lunch plates.
Marott Center owner Gershman Partners received approval Wednesday to construct an outdoor seating area (see rendering) in part of the loading zone in front of the building. Gershman started construction Monday on a four-story addition to the Marott Center as part of an overall $15 million renovation to the building.
A Walgreens walk-in clinic previously occupied the space Garden Table is taking. The Chicago-based company opened a pharmacy across the street on the ground level of the 3 Mass condominium building.
Garden Table should open sometime next summer or fall.
• Also on Mass Ave, Lincoln Square Pancake House will not be opening a restaurant on the ground floor of the $24 million Millikan on Mass project, according to building owner Insight Development Corp. The locally operated restaurant had committed in June to taking space in the new apartment and retail project at Mass Ave. and East Street.
Escape The Room, however, has signed a lease to occupy space at Millikan. The interactive puzzle room has two locations in New York City and would be downtown’s second escape room. The Escape Room opened in October at 200 S. Meridian St.
Fat Dan’s Chicago-Style Deli is still planning to open at Millikan and should start serving customers in February. The deli and pub has agreed to take 2,500 square feet, which is about 1,200 square feet larger than the restaurant’s space at 5410 N. College Ave. in Broad Ripple.
Downtown:
• The opening of Giordano’s in the Illinois Building downtown has been delayed at least until after February, according to the Facebook page “Bring Giordano’s Pizza to Indianapolis.” When the Chicago-based pizzeria announced the location at the corner of Market and Illinois streets in April, it had hoped to open in November. Giordano’s entered the Indianapolis market in January, at Rivers Edge shopping center on the northeast side.
Inquiries to the Illinois Building’s developer, Keystone Group, and to Giordano’s, were not returned.
At Butler University:
• Pita Pit has agreed to take 1,400 square feet in the Sunset Avenue parking garage and should open in early March.
The eatery will be open for lunch and dinner and will serve beer and wine. It will be operated by 2003 Butler grad and Pita Pit franchisee Travis Sealls, who also owns the downtown location at 1 N. Pennsylvania St.
Sealls has owned and operated the downtown Indianapolis Pita Pit store since 2009 and was the franchisee of the year in 2013. He also owns another restaurant, Punch Burger, which opened in Indianapolis in 2012 and expanded to Carmel in 2015.
At the Butler garage, Pita Pita will join Scotty’s Dawghouse, a slightly different twist on the Scotty’s Brewhouse chain.
In Broad Ripple
• Cold Stone Creamery has opened in 1,000 square feet at 840 Broad Ripple Ave. in the space formerly occupied by a La Bamba burrito joint. The location is the fourth in Indianapolis for the Scottsdale, Arizona-based ice cream chain.
At Circle Centre mall:
• #gifts (spelled with the pound sign), and The Outpost, which features "locally produced goods," have opened.
Elsewhere:
• Latitude 360 at 4016 E 82nd St. in Castleton reopened Wednesday after closing over the Thanksgiving weekend. Orange notices from the Indiana Department of Revenue on the doors of the entertainment complex suggested it had pulled Latitude 360's retail certificate for failing to pay sales taxes.
