Alleged Carmel hazing victim hires lawyer

April 1, 2010

One of the alleged freshman victims in the Carmel High School basketball hazing investigation has hired an attorney and is
threatening a lawsuit. Attorney Robert Turner said the young man was sexually attacked by senior players of the Carmel basketball
team on a bus after a game. Turner said other attacks took place in the school locker room.  "I have other victims’
names and I'd like to talk with them," Turner said.  He said the parents of his freshman client are angry school
administrators have not taken action or made a decisive statement about what will happen to the students accused of the assaults.
Hamilton County prosecutor Sonia Leerkamp said her office will decide on criminal charges by the end of April.

Mass-murder site could be torn down

March 29, 2010

The site of the worst mass murder in Indianapolis history could soon be torn down. The city is working to secure a demolition
order on the Hamilton Avenue house where seven people were murdered in June 2006. Two men have since been convicted for the
deaths. Once the lot is cleared, the land could become a park or possibly a memorial to the victims.

Foster parents would get less cash under state cuts

Indiana is trying to shift hundreds of foster children with medical, emotional or behavioral problems into cheaper care for
children without special needs, a move that cuts payments to families who care for the state's most challenged children.

Standoff comes to deadly end

A police standoff that lasted more than 12 hours ended Thursday morning when a Grant County man shot his estranged wife before
turning the gun on himself. Amy Nose and her husband, Paul, were going through a divorce, but friends say the couple talked
of reconciling. Still, Amy filed an intimidation report with police 24 hours before she was killed. Amy, who worked at nearby
Taylor University, had two daughters.

Employers fret over health care overhaul

Most employers in central Indiana are just beginning to figure out what the health insurance reform bill will mean for their
businesses. Caterpillar Inc., which employs nearly 1,500 at an engine plant in Lafayette, expects costs to rise about 20 percent.
